The Geomantic Framework

In the time of hardship in the 17th century after the Thirty Years’ War, the then ruler of Prussia, the great elector, Frederick William, called one of the most talented geomancers of his time, Prince Johann Moritz von Nassau zu Siegen, to help rebuild the area. He created basic energetic systems in the landscape that are still effective today and form the energetic basis of the landscape, park and city structures of Berlin and Potsdam.

Prince Moritz was Lord Master of the Order of St. John and Grand Master of the Order of the Swan, which had its center in the Schwanenburg in Kleve (West-phalia). The knowledge for dealing with energies and information structures was collected, guarded and passed on in various orders at that time. At that time they were the central places for guarding this ancient knowledge.

Prince Johann Moritz also created the energetic basic structure for the park of Sanssouci, which, however, was not to be built until the next century. Part of this basic structure was a leyline, which was to form the backbone, the central east-west axis of the park and which was possibly aligned with the Schwanenburg of Kleve.

The Garden of Paradise

The planning of the Sanssouci park is based on the idea of the garden of paradise. The word paradise comes from Persian and describes a protected piece of nature that has been cultivated. This means that paradise has always emerged and continues to emerge from the interaction of nature and man. In this garden, the relationship to nature was cultivated, it was about the unity of spirit and nature, about the path of self-knowledge and self-realization in contact with nature, including one’s own nature, it was about access to creation. Paradise was perceived as a gateway to the divine within and outside of us.

The paradise garden of Sanssouci was also very often referred to as Prussian Arcadia and thus refers to the ideal image of the high culture of Greek antiquity, probably in the time of Pericles in the 5th century BC.

This is associated with happiness, harmony, perfection, a connection to creation and oneness with the world, which was then programmed into this place with the help of the most diverse structures and elements within the park.

The Tree of Life

The world tree of the Judeo-Christian Kabbalah was inscribed into the park as a basic structure, or we could also say it was programmed into it. This world tree consists of a composition of 10 places, which all carry a specific life theme. The subject matter is created at the respective locations through programming, but also through the representation of the subjects with the help of a wide variety of sculptures (e.g. elements, planetary forces, ancient deities). Within the park, which was later expanded, the thematic approach was then further pursued (e.g. Roman emperors, German poets and thinkers, etc.). The selection of the plants used was made very consciously and takes into account the soul level, the character and the vibrations of the respective plants. For example, the plants of Aphrodite (e.g. grapes, figs, roses, myrtle) play a major role here.

By wandering through the tree of life, one walks one’s own inner path of knowledge and initiation, which should lead to a lack of intention and to carelessness (Sanssouci). The remaining free, invisible, eleventh point of the world tree is the most important place, the fountain rondel, which lies in the center of the system. It is equipped with a wide variety of (invisible) energetic systems and thus forms the actual (secret) center of the facility. It stands for the hidden knowledge that enables one to really understand creation and to cross the threshold from the spiritual world to the elements. The fountain rondel is decorated with sculptures that depict the elements or Greek deities and thus create an energetic connection to them.
